Bajaj Auto and Triumph Motorcycles had announced their long-term, non-equity partnership to develop a new range of mid-capacity motorcycles in 2017. The motorcycles new Bajaj-Triumph bikes will be manufactured at Bajaj’s Chakan plant and retailed under the Triumph nameplate. Speaking to carandbike, Shoeb Farooq, Business Head – Triumph Motorcycles India has confirmed that the first model under the joint venture will roll out on its scheduled timeline – i.e. 2022.

The companies will develop variety of motorcycles with displacement ranging from 200cc to 750cc. While there is no official word about the products, the lineup might include a baby Daytona 250, Triumph Tiger or a mini Bonneville. The new Bajaj-Triumph motorcycles will serve a wide customer range in the emerging markets including Latin America and South East Asia.

A latest digital rendering previews the first mid-capacity Bajaj-Triumph motorcycle that will be put up against the new-generation Royal Enfield bikes. Based on the entry-level Triumph Bonneville, the model features retro-classic styling with circular headlamp and a flat single-piece seat. The bike has been equipped with alloy wheels and digital instrument cluster.

Braking power comes from front and rear disc brakes, which are further assisted by dual-channel ABS (anti-lock braking system). Engine details of the new Bajaj-Triumph bike are still under the wraps. Though, it’s likely to come with a 200cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. The first bike under this joint venture is reported to be priced below Rs 2 lakh.

Recently, Bajaj Auto has stopped accepting bookings for its first electric scooter – Chetak – in Pune and Bengaluru. In fact, the company has postponed its plan to expand Chetak’s market in other cities. The reason behind this move is said to the interruption in the components’ supply from Wuhan, China. The electric scooter is available in Urbane and Premium variants packed with a 3.8kW/4.1kW electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack.
