2021 Toyota Fortuner, Corolla Cross Get 5-Star Crash Rating In ASEAN NCAP

The 2021 Toyota Fortuner, Hilux Pick-Up and the new Corolla Cross were recently crash tested by ASEAN NCAP, which is division of Global NCAP for Asia and Oceania. All three models received 5 stars, and are praised by organisation for scoring above 85 points that’s well above the average.

ASEAN NCAP tested the entry-level variant of the re-styled Toyota Hilux on sale in Thailand. This variant was fitted with only 3 airbags. The test result shows that the dummies were well protected. Only the driver received different grade in the leg region with Adequate and Marginal ratings. The test reveals that the driver’s legs showed a risk of injury in the test.

On the side impact, the Hilux performed really well and received perfect points. It also gained good average in Child safety; however, it loses points when installing a few specific car seats and a few tents in the test. The pick-up scored 3 points as it misses out on blind spot monitor and seat belt warning for the rear occupants. The 2021 Toyota Fortuner is based on the Hilux Pick-up, and the same test result is valid for both. Both models were awarded 87.46 points in total.

The Toyota Corolla Cross awarded 88.61 points in the ASEAN NCAP. In the frontal collision, the SUV received average rating for the driver’s chest area. Adding to it, the test reported a risk of injury to the leg of both front occupants. However, the Corolla Cross scored really well on the side impact.

The SUV also scored well in terms of protection for children; however, it loses points when installing some car seats. The Corolla Cross is equipped with high-end safety and security features like automatic emergency braking and blind spot monitor. These additional safety features help the SUV to receive higher score in the crash test.
