Toyota Hilux Spotted – Is It Coming To India?

A month ago, we have reported that Toyota Kirloskar Motors is evaluating the Toyota Hilux pickup truck for the Indian market. Now, the lifestyle pickup truck has been spotted in the country fueling its launch rumours. The multiple units of the vehicle were caught on camera in West Bengal on the Durgapur Expressway. Recently, the carmaker revealed the facelifted version of the Hilux with more powerful, frugal engine and better towing capacity.

The Toyota Hilux pickup truck shares its underpinning with the Fortuner SUV and Innova Crysta MPV. In fact, the powertrain, braking and suspension systems have also been borrowed from its siblings. The lifestyle truck uses a 2.8L, 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine that makes 201bhp and 500Nm of torque. Compared to the old unit, the new one is claimed to be 15.3% more powerful and 11.1% torqueier and fuel efficient. Globally, the Hilux is also been offered with 2.4L turbo diesel and 2.7L petrol engine options. Both 4X2 and 4X4 drivetrain systems are on offer. It can be had with three gearbox options.

Toyota Hilux Spied In India

Dimensionally, the Hilux measures 5285mm in length, 1815mm in width and 1855mm in height with a wheelbase of 3085mm. This makes it around 490mm and 550mm longer than the Fortuner and Innova Crysta respectively. The pickup truck comes with a ground clearance of 279mm. Interior of the Toyota Hilux comes equipped with a new 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and voice recognition. Most of the features are carried over from the previous model including a 4.2-inch instrument cluster, digital radio, LED headlamps with DRLs, etc. The facelifed version, however, gets Toyota Safety Sense that includes dynamic radar cruiser control, pre-collision system and lane departure alert.
