2021 Mahindra XUV500 To Get Electric Parking Brake, Drive Mode

The latest set of spy pictures reveals that the new-generation Mahindra XUV500 will come with dual-tone interior along with a drive mode selector knob and an electric parking brake (EPB). The electronically controlled parking brake enables the driver apply brake pads to the rear wheels by activating the holding mechanism with a button. For the first time, the SUV will come with the dual-tone interior theme.

We have reported earlier that the 2021 Mahindra XUV500 might be offered with the level 1 autonomous technology – ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System). Mahindra will also equip the new-generation XUV500 with Mercedes-Benz inspired touchscreen infotainment system and instrument panel. There will be several new comfort and connectivity features along with a flexible seating layout.

This time around, the XUV500 will come with both 6 and 7-seats layout with captain seats and a bench for the middle row. While the captain seats are likely to be reserved for the higher trims, the bench type seats might be offered on the lower and middle variants. The new-generation XUV500 will have bigger footprint that translates into more cabin space.

The biggest change will come in the form of new powertrains. The 2021 Mahindra XUV500 will come with the new 2.0L mStallion petrol motor delivering power around 190bhp and the updated 2.2L mHawk diesel unit making around 180bhp. Buyers will have two gearboxes to choose from – a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic. Select variants might be offered with AWD (all-wheel-drive) system.

In terms of pricing, the 2021 Mahindra XUV500 might witness a minor price hike while ensuring high-end features and variety of engine and gearbox options. Its prices are likely to start from Rs 13 lakh and go up to Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). The SUV’s new-generation model will have some new rivals in the segment including the MG Hector and Hector Plus and the upcoming Hyundai Creat 7-seater and Tata Gravitas.
