2021 Mahindra XUV500 – Radar Tech, Eyelid Tracking, Panoramic Vision

2021 will surely be an exciting year for Indian automobile industry as there will be several new product launches across the segments. One of the major unveilings will be the new-generation Mahindra XUV500 that has been spotted multiple times during its test rounds in the country. The latest spy pictures reveal that the carmaker is testing advanced electronic features for the 2021 Mahindra XUV500 including a radar system, a 3D panoramic vision for driver, an eyelid tracking mechanism and autonomous braking system. The radar system detects the speed and range of objects in the surrounding area of the vehicle. It has a transmitter and a receiver that sends radio waves hitting an object and bouncing back to the receiver and determines the object’s speed, distance and direction. The new XUV500 has also been tested for the eyelid tracking mechanism that measures driver’s fatigue by tracking the eyelids’ real-time changes. The 3D panoramic vision system eliminates driver’s blind spots by providing 3D representation of the scene surrounding the vehicle.

The 2021 Mahindra XUV500 will come with the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) that includes safety features such as adaptive cruise control, blindspot detection, drowsiness detection, autonomous emergency braking and lane-keep assist. For the first time, the SUV will receive the autonomous emergency braking system. Under the hood, the SUV will feature the new 2.0L, 4-cylinder mStallion T-GDI turbo petrol and the updated 2.0L mHawk diesel engines making power close to 190bhp with 380Nm and 180bhp with 380Nm respectively. The new XUV500 petrol will be the most powerful Mahindra model till date. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic unit. Significant changes will also be made to its exterior and interior.
