Mahindra Thar’s entry-level AX variants (including AX Std petrol, AX petrol and AX diesel) were delisted from the carmaker’s official website in November, 2020. According to a fresh media report, these variants have been reintroduced in the SUV model lineup and dealers have started accepting bookings for them. The 2021 Mahindra Thar AX 6-seater petrol and diesel models with soft top are now available at Rs 10.68 lakh and Rs 11.73 lakh respectively (all, showroom). Compared to their launch prices, the AX petrol and diesel 6-seater variants are around Rs 88,000 more expensive.
Recently, the carmaker increased prices of its entire SUV range including Thar, Scorpio, XUV500, Bolero, KUV100 and Marazzo. The Mahindra Thar witnessed its biggest ever price hike since its launch. Its prices have been increased by up to Rs 92,000. After the price hike, the SUV’s AX (O) manual, LX manual and automatic with convertible tops and LX automatic with hard top petrol variants cost Rs 12.78 lakh, Rs 13.38 lakh, Rs 14.78 lakh and Rs 14.88 lakh respectively.

Prices of the Thar diesel start from Rs 11.73 lakh for the re-launched AX manual soft top 6-seater model and go up to Rs 15.08 lakh for the top-end LX automatic hard top variant. The AX (O) diesel manual, convertible top version is available at Rs 12.98 lakh and hard top model costs Rs 13.08 lakh. At present, the 2021 Mahndra Thar is available with the 2.0L mStallion petrol and 2.0L mHawk diesel engines making power worth 150bhp with 320Nm and 130bhp with 320Nm respectively. Both motors can be had with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. A 4X4 transfer box is standard across the model lineup.
