2020 Mahindra Thar First Teaser Out; Debut On 15th August

Mahindra & Mahindra has confirmed that the new-generation Thar will be unveiled on the occasion of 74th Independence Day – 15th August, 2020. The carmaker says that the off-road SUV’s new model will be a “quantum leap in Technology, Comfort and Safety features” without compromising on its iconic design. While its official launch date and details are yet to be announced, the 2020 Mahindra Thar is reported to hit roads in the month of October or November. Bookings are likely to commence a few weeks after its global debut.  

The second-generation Thar will be offered with multiple engine-gearbox combinations. For the first time, the off-road SUV will receive a new 2.0L petrol engine from the brand’s mStallion family. The motor will deliver power worth 190bhp and 380Nm of torque, thus making it the most powerful Mahindra engine. There will also be the BS6 140bhp, 2.2L mHawk diesel engine on offer. Transmission choices will include 6-speed manual and 6-speed Aisin sourced automatic gearboxes. The SUV will come with 4WD system, limited slip functionality and a differential lock.

Official details of the 2020 Mahindra Thar are still under the wraps. Though, the spy pictures have revealed several interesting details of the new model. The SUV will receive a touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity and a colour multi-info display. If reports are to be believed, the new-generation model will feature automatic climate control, cruise control, front facing rear seats, factory-fitted hard top and power folding mirrors. In terms of safety, the new Thar will surely be a lot better than its predecessor. The standard safety kit is likely to include dual airbags, ABS (antilock braking system), EBD (electronic brakeforce distribution), rear parking camera and sensors and seatbelt reminder. The off-road SUV will retain its original design and upright stance. Though, it will witness some significant cosmetic upgrades including LED DRLs (daytime running lights).
