2020 Mahindra Thar Deliveries Begin; 1st Unit Handed Over To Auction Winner

The home-grown carmaker has handed over the first unit of the 2020 Mahindra Thar off-road SUV to the in winner of the online auction – Aakash Minda. The vehicle was presented by Mr. Satinder Bajwa, Senior Vice President, Sales and Customer Care, Mahindra in New Delhi. It was the top-end LX petrol automatic convertible variant painted in Mystic Copper colour. The model has Thar #1 badge, customized badging of owner’s initials and serial number ‘1’ on the dashboard and leatherette seats.

Just so you know, the first unit of the new-generation Thar was put up for the auction for a noble cause. The winning bid for the model was Rs 1.11 crore, which came from Aakash Minda. The online Thar auction attracted over 5,400 registrations from around 550 locations across the nation. Its bidding was started at a reserve price of Rs 25 lakh. Winner had to choose one of the three non-profit organizations to donate the raised fund, namely, Swades Foundation, Naandi Foundation and the PM Cares fund. Minda has opted to donate the amount to the Swades Foundation.

Based on the new ladder-frame chassis, the 2020 Mahindra Thar comes with two engine options and three roof options (hard, soft and convertible). The petrol model derives power from a 2.0-litre ‘mStallion’ engine paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox (standard) and a 6-speed automatic transmission (optional). The diesel version of the 2020 Mahindra Thar has been equipped with a 2.2-litre mHawk motor that can be had with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The petrol engine pushes out a peak power of 152bhp and a maximum torque of 300Nm and 320Nm with manual and automatic gearbox respectively. The oil burner has been tuned for generating power worth 132bhp and 300Nm of torque. All variants of the second-generation Thar come with four-wheel-drive (FWD) and a manual-shift transfer case.
