– The previous generation Elite i20 sits below 4 meters in length. It measures 3,985mm in length, 1,734mm in width and 1,505mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,570mm.

– The new model rides on 2,580mm longer wheelbase, which should help Hyundai engineers to create more space inside the cabin. The length and width of the hatchback are increased by 10mm and 41mm respectively. The new-gen Hyundai i20 looks completely different from the previous generation model. It is based on the brand’s new “Sensuous Sportiness”, design language, which we have already seen on the international-spec new-gen Tucson and the Elantra sedan. The new i20 is the first model in our market based on the new Sensuous Sportiness design language.

In terms of styling, the 2020 Hyundai i20 sports aggressive design with sharp creases and curves all around the body. At the front, the premium hatchback gets a new larger signature cascading grille in black finish and diamond pattern mesh treatment. The bumper has triangular shaped fog lamp enclosure, while the Elite i20 had angular fog lamp housing.

The new model comes with sculpted bonnet with multiple lines and rectangular-shaped headlamps with LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lamps). Chrome treatment can be seen on the door handles and on the window line that runs all the way to the C-pillar. There are strong character lines and creases running across the length, sloping roofline and dual-tone paint scheme. The hatchback gets newly styled alloy wheels, which looks better than the older i20.

The rear profile of the new i20 is dominated by newly styled tail-lamps that has ‘Z’ lighting signature. There is a thin chrome strip that connects the tail-lamps. There is a blacked out section on the boot lid, which looks similar to the one offered in the Tata Altroz hatchback. It gets a fake rear diffuser, dual-tone bumper and roof-integrated spoiler.

Elite i20

The previous generation Elite i20 was based on Hyundai’s new Fluidic V2.0 design theme. Design highlights include black cascading grille, headlamps with LED DRLs, and new arrowhead fog lamps. It features bold shoulder lines and bonnet creases, a floating roof, sculpted hatch door, rear bumper with large matte black insert and reflectors, and diamond cut alloys.

The interior of the new-gen i20 shares the design layout with the international-spec model. It comes with all-new dashboard with clean design. The central console is dominated by a large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Navigation and Voice Recognition, and Hyundai’s BlueLink Connected car technologies. In terms of features, the hatchback gets air purifier with virus protection, digital instrument console, wireless charging system, cruise control, automatic AC, sunroof, Bose premium sound system, rear view camera, etc.

The previous generation i20 was available with the 1.2-litre Kappa Dual VTVT petrol engine that churns out a maximum power output of 82bhp and a peak torque of 114Nm. The diesel version was equipped with a 1.4-litre CRDi engine producing 89bhp and 219Nm of torque. Transmission options on the old i20 include a 5-speed and a 6-speed manual gearbox.

The new-gen Hyundai i20 is available with 3 engine options – a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol, a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo-diesel. The naturally-aspirated petrol engine is capable of producing 82bhp and 114Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The 1.0L turbo engine is capable of producing around 100/120bhp of power and 175Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed iMT and a 7-speed DCT.
