Tata Altroz Turbo (New Hyundai i20 Rival) Launch This Month

We informed you earlier that Tata Motors will launch the performance oriented Altroz Turbo version during festive season. A new media report claims that the Tata Altroz Turbo’s prices are likely to be released this month.

The upcoming Altroz Turbo will directly rival the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI and the new Hyundai i20 1.0L Turbo. The performance hatch will be powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which also powers the Nexon compact SUV. However, the Hatch gets a slightly detuned version of the hatchback. While powering the Altroz hatch, the 1.2L Turbo engine churns out a maximum power output of 110bhp and 140Nm of torque. In the Nexon, this engine is tuned to produce 120bhp and 170Nm of torque.

Tata Altroz Turbo Specifications

Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox. The company is also testing the Altroz with a DCT (Dual-Clutch Automatic) Gearbox; however, it is expected to be offered on a later stage. Also See – Tata Altroz Turbo-Petrol Teased

The report claims that the Altroz Turbo will weigh around 980kg, which suggests that the hatch will offer excellent power-to-weight ratio and performance. The new model is likely to be offered in the top two or three variants. The Turbo version looks exactly similar to the regular model. It’s the ‘iturbo’ badge on the black rear section that distinguishes it from the regular petrol version.

Tata Altroz Prices

Tata Altroz Turbo’s direct rival, the new Hyundai i20 is available with a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 118bhp and 175Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed iMT (Intelligent Manual Transmission) and a 7-speed DCT (Dual-Clutch Automatic). The VW Polo GT TSI is equipped with a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 108bhp and 172Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

The regular Tata Altroz is available with two engine options – a 1.2L naturally-aspirated petrol and a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel. The former is good for 85bhp at 6,000rpm and 113Nm at 3,300rpm, while the  oil burner produces 89bhp at 4,000rpm and 200Nm between 1,250-3,000rpm. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard across the lineup.
