The Indian automobile industry showed a revival sign with a total sales around 2.69 million units. While Hyundai, Maruti Suzuki and Honda managed to pulled-in decent volume, the home-grown carmakers – Mahindra and Tata – failed to appeal the masses.

After witnessing miserable sales in 2013 and 2014, the Indian automobile industry achieved fairly decent numbers in 2015 with 6% year-on-year sales growth. Thanks to low fuel prices and investment in infrastructure sector, the overall performance of passenger cars was satisfactory in the first 11 months of this calendar year. Besides, the aforementioned factors launch of several new cars helped the industry better its performance.

Cars like Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Renault Kwid and Mahindra TUV300 were among the highest volume generators this year. On the other hand, some highly anticipated cars including Tata Bolt, Maruti Suzuki S-Cross and new Ford Figo failed to lure buyers. As the year 2015 is about to end, we bring you a list of the 10 best selling cars in India. Since the carmaker’s December 2015 sales figures are yet to be revealed, we have included the total sales and monthly average of the first 11 months (i.e. January 2015 – November 2015).

1. Maruti Suzuki Alto

Maruti Suzuki’s perennial top-seller, the Alto retained the title of being the best selling car in India this year as well. The hatchback registered total sales of 2,49,507 units with a monthly average of over 22,682 units.

2. Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire

India’s most popular compact sedan, the Maruti Swift Dzire grabbed the second spot in the top selling cars’ list for 2015. Despite having competitors like Honda Amaze and Ford Figo Aspire, the Dzire reported total sales of over 2.19 lakh units in the first 11 months as against 1.93 lakh units of the previous year.

3. Maruti Suzuki Swift

The country’s most successful premium hatchback, the Maruti Swift with a year-on-year growth of 3.75% has retained the third position in the top selling cars of 2015. The vehicle registered a monthly average of over 17,488 units. Maruti Suzuki India (MSI), till November, sold over 1.92 lakh units of the hatchback that makes it the third best selling car of the year.

4. Maruti Suzuki Wagon R

With the introduction of AMT technology and limited editions, the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R kept maintaining its position in the best selling cars’ list of the year. This budget hatchback managed to achieve total sales of 1.55 lakh units with a monthly average of over 14,159 units.

5. Hyundai Elite i20

The Hyundai Elite i20 that bagged ‘Indian Car of the Year 2015’ award, is the only non-Maruti car to mark itself among the top -5 selling cars of the year. Ever since its launch, the Elite i20 has been the best-selling Hyundai cars in the country. The hatchback recorded a monthly average of over 10,882 units, and total sales of 1.19 lakh units.

6. Hyundai Grand i10

The Hyundai Grand i10 is the second car from the Korean automaker that managed to enter the list. In the first 11 months of the 2015, Hyundai sold over 10,118 units of the Grand i10 on monthly basis, and 1.11 lakh units annually.

7. Mahindra Bolero

The Mahindra Bolero has always been the hot choice among semi-urban and rural Indian buyers. After getting defeated by Hyundai Creta for two months, the vehicle made a strong come back in October 2015, and maintained its position in November as well. With a total of 80,914 units in the first 11 months of the year, the Bolero kept generating decent numbers for the home-grown automaker.

8. Honda City

India’s most loved premium sedan, the Honda City kept dominating the space with a monthly sales average of over 6,958 units, and an annual sum of 76,546 units. Though, the company registered 3.61% drop in its sales in November 2015.

9. Maruti Suzuki Celerio

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio, till November 2015, registered an impressive year-on-year growth of 19.4% with total sales of 74,942 units. Just so you know, the Celerio was the first Indian car that received AGS (auto gear shift) or AMT (automated manual transmission) technology.

10. Maruti Suzuki Omni

The Maruti Omni has always been favored for its practicality and affordability. This is why it still managed to hold a spot in the top -10 selling cars of the year. Despite being the oldest vehicle in the company’s existing product lineup, the Omni recorded a monthly sales average of over 6,616 units, and an annual total of 72,778 units.
