New Skoda Superb 2016 shares its engines with the Skoda Octavia - i.e. 1.8-litre TSI petrol and 2.0-litre TDI diesel.

The new Skoda Superb 2016 has been launched in India at a starting price of Rs. 22.68 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). Available in five variants across two trims – Style and L & K – the new Skoda Superb 2016 will take on the likes of Volkswagen Passat, Toyota Camry and Hyundai Sonata. For people not in the know, the saloon first broke cover in Prague in February, 2015. The new Superb receives significant exterior and interior updates. It’s bigger, lighter and more spacious than the outgoing model.

In the global markets, the new Skoda Superb 2016 is being offered with five petrol – 123.2bhp, 1.4-litre TSI, 147.9bhp, 1.4-litre TSI, 177.5bhp, 1.8-litre TSI, 216.9bhp, 2.0-litre TSI and 276.1bhp, 2.0-litre TSI – and three diesel – 118.3bhp, 147.9bhp, 1.6-litre TDI and 187.4bhp, 2.0-litre TDI – engine options. Whereas, the India-bound model is made available with a 1.8 TSI petrol and a 2.0-litre TDI CR diesel engines that also do duty on the Skoda Octavia. Transmission options remain the same i.e. a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG automatic.

The new Skoda Superb 2016 model looks more evolved and premium than the outgoing model, thanks to its sharper edges and angular surfaces. The saloon’s new model shares lots of design elements with the Vision C concept, which was showcased at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. The car gets a 3D headlamps with LED daytime driving lights, a sloping roofline, narrow pillars, 17-inch alloy wheels, and ‘two-part’ LED taillights at the rear. The Skoda Superb 2016 is built on the VW’s MQB platform that also underpins the Skoda Octavia and Audi A3. It will be 70kgs lighter, and more spacious than the previous model.

The overall length and width of the car have been increased by 28mm and 47mm respectively, while the front overhang has been reduced by 61mm. The new-generation Superb offers 39mm extra elbow room for the front seat occupants, and 157mm additional legroom for the rear seat passengers. The saloon also offers best-in-class boot space of 625-litres that can be increased up to 1,760-litres by folding the rear seats.

The interior of the new Skoda Superb 2016 model is more feature-rich and up-market than the previous model.
The car gets a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Smartlink, 12-speakers music system, 3-spoke leather-wrapped multi-function steering, three-zone climate control, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth connectivity, CANTON audio system and adaptive dampers with three driving modes, 12-ways electrically adjustable drive seat with memory function and lumbar support, heated seats, a panoramic sunroof etc. The saloon also hosts a bunch of advanced safety features such as eight airbags with optional rear side airbags, rear parking sensors, fatigue detection system, anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic stability control (ESC).

New Skoda Superb 2016 Engine & Transmission

For the Indian market, the new Skoda Superb 2016 is offered with both, petrol and diesel, engines that are borrowed from the Skoda Octavia. While the 1.8-litre TSI petrol mill belts out a maximum power of 178bhp, the 2.0-litre TDI diesel motor delivers 175bhp of power. Both the powertrains are equipped with a start-stop system and brake energy regeneration technology. Skoda claims that these engines are 10% more fuel efficient than before. Transmission duties are performed by a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch DSG automatic gearbox.

    i just sold my superb 2011 model . the only problem was its air condetioning .
