Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest carmaker has showcased the Swift Range Extender concept at the International Green Mobility Expo 2015 (GMX 2015) New Delhi. The hatchback was also displayed at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show, and it is the second public appearance of the car.
This plug-in hybrid is based on the European Swift and is equipped with better quality plastic and steel. According to Maruti, the Swift R.E offers a combined fuel efficiency of 48.2kmpl. On pure electric model, this variant delivers a driving range of around 25.5km. The Swift R.E is propelled by an inline, 3-cylinder 658cc petrol engine that combines with a permanent synchronous motor, paired to a single-speed auto gearbox. The combined power output of the car is 73bhp.
The hatchback measures 1,600 kg, and it takes 1.5 hours to fully charge the lithium-ion cells through a 200V socket. The hybrid Swift R.E was unveiled in India at the electric pavilion of the 2014 Auto Expo. Inside, the car’s audio system features a small information display screen. Its multimedia infotainment system provides powertrain information. Feature list include start/stop button, remote keyless entry and rear disc brakes.
It is quite early to comment whether the Swift R.E will enter into production-line for Indian market; however, reports suggest that the next generation Swift could offer hybrid option in India.
