UM Renegade Classic directly rival the Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350
American bike maker, United Motors aka UM has finally launched the long-awaited UM Renegade Classic cruiser motorcycle in the Indian market. Besides, the company has also introduced the UM Renegade Mojave Edition in India at Rs 1.80 lakh. The new Classic cruiser is priced at Rs 1.89 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). Unveiled at the Auto Expo 2016, the Renegade Classic is a perfect example of UM’s diligence which is ready to cater demands and requirements of the most challenging customer base in the world. Being closely compared to the Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350, this one steps-in with an unparalleled style state and value proposition.
Powering the new Renegade Classic is the same 279.5cc liquid-cooled engine that is good for 24.8bhp of power and 23Nm of torque. This engine is coupled to a six-speed gearbox, which sends the power to the rear wheel via a chain drive. Developed for touring purpose, the Classic is more compact in size and is shorter than the Commando sibling. This cruiser motorcycle has telescopic forks and twin shocks at the front and rear, respectively. For braking, the bike has 2800mm disc at the front and 130mm drum at the rear. This new Renegade Classic is equipped with several touring friendly equipment like tank cover, premium saddlebag, highway engine guards, polycarbonate windshield and alloy back rest. The cruiser motorcycle is painted in a high gloss metallic two-tone paint job and a lot of chrome treatment. It is available with two paint jobs – Copper Cream and Candy Metallic Glossy Black.

The Classic is one of the most expensive UM Motorcycles in India. Equipped with several touring friendly features, this cruiser comes with a price sticker of Rs 1.89 lakh. At the heart of Renegade Classic is a 279.5cc, single-stroke water-cooled engine that churns out a maximum power output of 24.8bhp at 8,500rpm and a peak torque of 23Nm at 7,000rpm. The engine coordinates with a 6-speed synchronized mesh gearbox that sends the power to the rear wheel through a chain drive.
The cruiser motorcycle features telescopic forks at the front and twin shocks at the rear. For braking duties, the bike gets a 280mm disc at the front and a 130mm drum at the rear. However, it misses out on ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System).
UM claims that Renegade Classic can attain a top speed of 125kmph which is pretty higher than the 107kmph figure attained by its closest rival RE Thunderbird.
UM hasn’t revealed the fuel efficiency of its entire lineup. We believe that this cruiser sport could deliver around 30kmpl in city traffic and around 40kmpl on freeways.
Since it falls in a very special price range, it filters out maximum competition. Nevertheless, it will face prime rivalry with Royal Enfield that maintains a very strong brand presence in India and a few others line Mahindra Mojo.
