At the recently concluded Paris Motor Show, Toyota unveiled the C-HR compact crossover concept which is reportedly to go production line in 2016-17. If media reports are to be believed, the carmaker will launch an all-new compact SUV in 2016 which would be based on the C-HR crossover concept.

Speaking to Car Advice, Karl Schlicht, Toyota managing officer and executive vice president of Toyota Motor Europe’s sales group said that the compact SUV will be developed on the C-HR platform. The production model would not see daylight next year, but it would go on sale in next couple of years. The compact SUV is likely to be manufactured in Thailand or Europe, and it would be smaller than the RAV-4.

The concept shown at the Paris Motor Show is powered by a hybrid powetrain, and this is the same powertrain that also powers the new generation Prius which is due in 2015.
