Ford Brazil has recently launched the Ka+ sedan aka Figo sedan, which is scheduled to make its Indian debut next year.  Ford India has already started importing the Figo sedan from Brazil for testing and R&D purpose. While the Brazilian model measures over 4 metres in length, the Indian-spec model will be a compact sedan with a sub-4 meter length.

The Figo sedan will be launched in the first half of next year, and will be followed by the 2015 Figo/Ka hatchback. Both models will be manufactured at Ford’s upcoming Sanand facility in Gujarat. Adding to it, the next Figo has also been imported from Brazil for R&D purpose.

Surprisingly, the Ford Ka+ sedan arrives in India features the 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol unit that also powers the EcoSport crossover. It is also expected that the Indian-spec model would also get de-tuned 1.0-litre EcoBoost variant. Its oil burner is likely to be the same 1.5-litre 4-cylinder TDCI turbo diesel unit. It is based on the thoroughly modified European Fiesta platform, which also underpins the Figo hatch and Classic sedan.

The sub-4 metre Figo compact sedan will replace the aging Classic sedan in the Indian car market. It will compete against the likes of Honda Amaze, Maruti Swift Dzire, Hyundai Xcent and Tata Zest. Moreover, Volkswagen is also planning to launch the Polo based compact sedan next year.
