The Japanese carmaker is planning to give generation change to its three popular models, namely, Suzuki Alto, WagonR and Vitara SUV by 2021. The updated models will also make their way to India sometime next year. While the new-generation Suzuki Vitara is reported to debut next month (October), the new Alto will have its world premiere in December, 2020. 1. Heartect platform
The new-generation Maruti Alto will switch to the new Heartect platform that underpins the brand’s new breed cars. The carmaker says that the architecture has been designed using ultra and advanced high strength steels. It’s capable to absorb and distribute impact energy uniformly across the vehicle structure to ensure the passengers’ safety. It also improves NVH levels, handling and power-to-weight ratio of the vehicle.
2. Significant updates
As of now, the design and interior details of the new Suzuki Alto (2021 Maruti Alto) are still under the wraps. Though, we expect it to receive comprehensive changes inside and out. The entry-level hatchback might come with an entirely new front fascia sporting newly-designed grille, updated bumper and revised headlamps. Other key changes might include a set of newly-designed wheels, bolder side creases, updated taillamps and bumper. The new Alto might also witnessed minor dimensional changes. The higher trim of the hatchback is likely to come with a touchscreen infotainment system.
3. Safer than before
The 2021 Maruti Alto hatchback is likely to be safer than the current generation, thanks to its Heartect platform. It’s highly unlikely that the new model get dual airbags as standard safety feature not as an option. Currently, the standard safety kit of the Alto includes driver airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, driver and co-driver seat belt reminder and speed alert system. 4. New engine
In Japan, the next-generation Suzuki Alto will receive a new R06D 658cc engine that’s good for 48bhp. There will also be a sportier version of the hatchback featuring turbocharged motor. Here, the 2021 Maruti Suzuki Alto is likely to come with the 796cc naturally-aspirated petrol engine delivering 48bhp and 69Nm. Both manual and AMT gearboxes will be on offer.
5. Minor Price Hike
With noticeable cosmetic changes, feature upgrades and new platform, the 2021 Maruti Alto is likely to witnessed a minor price hike. At present, the hatchback model lineup comes in the price range of Rs 2.94 lakh – Rs 4.36 lakh (all, ex-showroom).
