2020 Mahindra Thar AX Base Variant – No Petrol, No Automatic

Mahindra & Mahindra has confirmed that the new-generation Thar will come in three variants – AX, AX (O) and LX. The off-road SUV will be made available with a new 2.0L mStallion turbo petrol (150bhp/320Nm) and a 2.2L diesel (130bhp/320Nm) engine with 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox options. Interestingly, the 2020 Mahindra Thar AX entry-level variant will be offered with diesel-manual combination only. The base model won’t have an option for hard top and convertible soft top. It can be had with fixed soft top only. The AX will offer all basic comfort and safety features including a monochrome multi information display for the instrument cluster, manual AC unit, 12V accessory socket, power steering, power windows, 6-seats layout (2 front seats and 4 side facing seats), 16-inch steel wheels, LED taillamps and manual inside day-night rear view mirror.

For the safety provision, the 2020 Mahindra Thar AX will provide dual front airbags, rear parking sensors, central locking and ABS with EBS. The new Thar is claimed to offer better off-road performance, thanks to its better approach, departure and ramp up angles, 650mm water wading ability, independent front suspension, 226mm ground clearance and all-terrain tyres. The off-road SUV will come in a choice of 6 colour schemes – Rocky Beige, Galaxy Grey, Red Rage, Aquamarine, Napoli Black and Mystic Copper.

While official prices of the new Thar will be announced on 2nd October 2020, it’s reported to be priced as low as Rs 9.75 lakh for the base variant. The petrol models will be made available from Rs 9.75 lakh to Rs 12.49 lakh, and the diesel variants will cost between Rs 10.49 lakh – Rs 12.25 lakh. Once launched, the new-generation Thar will lock horns against the upcoming new Force Gurkha that will hit showrooms during this festive season.
