Next-gen Toyota Avanza MPV Likely Unveil in December 2020
The next-gen Toyota Avanza MPV is expected to be designed and developed on the DNGA platform
We informed you earlier that Toyota’s low-cost brand, Daihatsu is working on an all-new 6-seater MPV for the Indonesian market. What’s more interesting is that new MPV will also have Toyota’s version. The new MPV will be designed and developed on the DNGA platform, which is basically the low-cost version of the TNGA platform.
The 6-seater MPV is rumoured to be the next-gen Toyota Avanza MPV. Daihatsu will come as a replacement for the Xenia MPV, and could be called the new generation Daihatsu Xenia. According to media reports the upcoming Daihatsu MPV will have three row of seats and six seats. The new MPV could the production version of the Daihatsu DN Multisix concept, which was first unveiled in GIIAS 2017 and the Tokyo Motor Show.
At the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show, the Daihatsu Multisix was placed alongside the DN Trec concept. Daihatsu has already launched the Rocky compact SUV based on the DN Trec concept. Toyota also has its own version, which is called the Raize compact SUV. It is expected that the Multisix production will be launched the next-gen Avanza under Toyota and the next-gen Xenia under Daihatsu.
The next-gen Toyota Avanza MPV will be based on the DNGA platform, which is likely to be offered with 1.0 litre turbo petrol and a 1.2 litre hybrid option. The company could also introduce the electrified version of the MPV. The 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine is capable of producing 98bhp and 140Nm of torque. Transmission options are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic.
The next-gen Toyota Avanza won’t make its way to our market. Instead, Toyota is planning to launch the Ertiga based MPV in our market in the next 1 year. Toyota is also developing an all-new C-segment MPV, which will be shared with Maruti Suzuki. The new C-segment MPV will be positioned between the Ertiga and the Innova Crysta, and it will rival the Mahindra Marazzo.
