Toyota-Daihatsu Readying A New 6-Seater Family MPV

Toyota-Daihatsu MPV

The new Toyota-Daihatsu MPV will be based on the DNGA platform that underpins the new Raize.

Toyota has recently introduced the new Raize sub-4 meter SUV in the Japanese market, which will also be launched in select International markets. Toyota’s low-cost brand, Daihatsu also introduced the new Rocky sub-4 meter SUV. Both mini SUVs are based on the Toyota’s low-cost TNGA platform, which is called the DNGA (Daihatsu New Global Architecture) platform.

A new media report claims that Daihatsu is also working on an all-new minivan, which is rumoured to be unveiled in December 2020. It will be a 3-row, 6-seater family minivan, which will be based on the DNGA platform. The new model is expected to be launched in Japan and other Asian markets including Indonesia, Malaysia, etc.

Daihatsu DN Multisix

It is expected that the new MPV could come as a replacement for the Daihatsu Xenia, which is brand’s one of the most successful MPVs in Indonesia. The company had showcased the DN-Multisix concept car, which was predicted to be the new-generation Daihatsu Xenia. Similar to the Raize and Rocky twins, Toyota could also receive its own-derivative of the new minivan. The company had announced that there will be a new electric car in 2020. The electric or hybrid version of this MPV could be sold under the Toyota nameplate.

If reports are to be believed, the new Mini MPV will receive the 1.0-litre, in-line 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that also powers the Toyota Raize. Paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox, this engine (in Raize) produces 98bhp of power and 140Nm of torque. The company will offer two types of hybrid system that combine a newly-developed 1.2-litre in-line 3-cylinder + electric motor.
