MG ZS Petrol SUV (Seltos, Creta Rival) Launch – New Details Emerge

We informed you earlier that MG Motors is planning to launch the ZS petrol version in the Indian market in 2021. This will be the brand’s fourth product in our market, first 3 being the Hector, ZS EV and the upcoming Gloster SUV. The MG ZS petrol will sit below the Hector, and will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster, Nissan Kicks and the Kia Seltos.

A new media report claims that MG has started looking for component suppliers for the MG ZS petrol. Speaking to Moneycontrol, an undisclosed industry source said that MG Motor has floated a request for quotation (RFQ) for a petrol version of the ZS which it intends to bring to the market next year.

For people not in the Know, MG Motors had showcased the ZS petrol variant at the 2020 Auto Expo. The SUV looks similar to the electric sibling, except for the revised grille and some cosmetic changes. In the international markets, the MG ZS petrol is available in 2 engine options – 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol and 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol – producing 104bhp/141Nm and 109bhp/160Nm respectively. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The ZS 1.5L model can achieve 0-100kmph in 10.9 seconds, and the 1.0L model takes 12.4 seconds to achieve the same speed. While the former has a top speed of 175kmph, the 1.0L unit achieves 180kmph.

In terms of proportions, the MG ZS SUV is 4,314mm long, 1,809mm wide and 1,611mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,585mm. Its 448-litre of boot space is enough spacious to accommodate a family trip luggage. One can further expand it up to 1,375-litres by folding seats. The SUV offers a fuel tank capacity of 48-litre. The MG ZS petrol SUV will be manufactured at the company’s Halol based plant. The company will aim to achieve higher localisation levels to price this SUV competitive. It is likely to cost around Rs 10 lakh – Rs 14 lakh. This year, MG Motors will launch the Hector Plus 6-seater and the Gloster 7-seater premium SUV.
