Hyundai To Launch BS6-Ready Vehicles From Early Next Year

Hyundai Creta 2020

The upcoming Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) emission norms are all set to be enforced from 1st April, 2020. Car manufacturers such as Maruti Suzuki, Honda, Ford, Toyota and Mahindra have already announced that they will introduce BS6-compliant engines in their models in coming months. Now, Hyundai has confirmed that it has almost done with its research and development (R&D) work and will start to roll out the BS6-ready models (including diesel variants) by the end of this year or early next year. The South Korean carmaker will upgrade its product lineup to BS6 levels in a gradual manner. In the company’s product portfolio, the newly-launched Hyundai Grand i10 Nios petrol is the only BS6-compliant model. Its diesel version still comes with the BS4 engine. Hyundai will continue to produce and sell the BS4 vehicles till 31st March, 2020.

Hyundai believes that the sales of BS4 vehicles will increase before April 2020 as customers want to purchase cars at a reasonable price. The BS6 upgrade will increase vehicles’ prices by up to Rs 2 lakh.  While the petrol engines will be easier to calibrate to meet the new emission standards, the diesel powertrains will require an all-new technology. Therefore, the petrol vehicles will get more expensive than the diesel models.

Recently, the Finance Minister announced a few solutions to revive the automobile industry. With the announcement, she made clear that the BS4 vehicles can be purchased before or till 31st March 2020. The BS4 cars will be allowed to run on roads till their registration period. The increased depreciation rate will further encourage buyers to purchase new cars.
