Tata Altroz hatchback will be built on new ALFA modular architecture.

Tata has officially announced the name of the upcoming premium hatchback based on the 45X Concept. Called Tata Altroz, the premium hatchback is scheduled to be launched in mid-2019, most probably in July-August. The production-ready model will make global debut at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Besides this model, Tata will also unveil the 7-seater SUV codenamed H7X, Hornbill mini SUV concept and all-electric model.

With this premium hatchback, Tata will enter into the B+ segment that is currently dominated by Maruti Baleno and Hyundai Elite i20. Both these models are constantly doing over 10,000 monthly sales. The company aims to achieve significant share in the growing premium hatchback segment. In order to gain competitive edge, Tata could price the new model aggressively.

The Tata Altroz will be the brand’s first model to be based on the ALFA modular architecture, which will also underpin the Hornbill micro SUV and a mid-sized sedan. In fact, all Tata cars under 4.3 meters in length will be built on this platform. The next-gen Tiago, Tigor and Nexon will also use this platform. Read – Tata Altroz – 5 Things To Know

The Tata Altroz premium hatchback is based on Tata’s new IMPACT DESIGN 2.0 philosophy, which first debuted in the new Harrier 5-seater SUV. The company has also released a new teaser image of the hatchback, which largely resembles the 45X concept. While the concept was above 4 meter in length, the production-ready model will sit below 4 meter.

The Altroz hatchback design highlights include a slim grille flanked by sweptback headlamp cluster, tri-arrow fog lamps, slimmer tail-lights and flared wheel arches. In terms of features, the premium hatchback gets a large freestanding toouchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a multi-functional steering wheel, automatic climate control and an instrument cluster with a large digital display. The Tata Altroz hatchback is expected to be offered with 2 petrol engine options – a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated unit from Tiago and a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged unit from the Nexon. A 6-speed manual gearbox will come as standard, while a new 6-speed dual-clutch gearbox could be offered as optional.
