Maruti Ciaz 1.5-litre diesel Launching Next Month – Report
The new Maruti’s 1.5L 4-cylinder diesel engine produces 94bhp of power at 4,000rpm and 225Nm of torque between 1,500-2,500rpm.
We informed you earlier that Maruti Suzuki is readying an all-new in-house developed 1.5-litre diesel engine. This engine will power the Ciaz, Ertiga, S-Cross and Vitara Brezza. It will first debut in Ciaz, which will be followed by new Ertiga. If latest media report is to be believed, the Maruti Ciaz 1.5L diesel model will be launched in India in February 2019.
The Ciaz will continue to offer with the existing 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine, and the new powertrain is likely to be introduced in the top-spec model as optional. This engine is expected to replace the existing D13A diesel engine in 2020. The new 1.5-litre diesel engine will be BSVI ready and will be compliant with the upcoming BS6 emission norms.
The report claims that the new engine will carry DDiS 225 branding in the Maruti Ciaz. This 4-cylinder powertrain is capable of producing 94bhp of power at 4,000rpm and 225Nm of torque between 1,500-2,500rpm. Power will be the transmitted to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The current Maruti Ciaz petrol and diesel variants are equipped with SHVS mild-hybrid system. It is yet to be confirmed whether the Ciaz with 1.5L engine will get this mild-hybrid technology. It is expected that the new diesel engine will significantly increase the prices of the Ciaz sedan. While the current Ciaz diesel starts at Rs 9.19 lakh, the upcoming model with 1.5L enginee is expected to cost around Rs 10 lakh. Also See – Upcoming New Maruti Cars
