Jeep Renegade: Hyundai Creta Rival Coming Next Year
2019 Jeep Renegade facelift is expected to arrive in India in the first half of 2019
American SUV maker, Jeep will launch 3 all-new SUVs in India in the next 3-4 years. The company will introduce the long-awaited Renegade in the first half of 2019, which will be followed by a sub-4 meter SUV in 2020. Jeep is also working on a 7-seater premium SUV to challenge the likes of Toyota Fortuner & Ford Endeavour. This SUV is scheduled to be launched in 2021-22. Besides these 3 models, Jeep will introduce the facelifted versions of Wrangler and Grand Cherokee in 2019. It was speculated to be launched in late 2019; however, the decline in sales of Compass could be the reason behind early launch of new Renegade.
Coming back to the Jeep Renegade, the 5-seater premium SUV will directly rival the segment-leader Hyundai Creta. Previous media reports claim that the new SUV will be priced around Rs 10 lakh for the base model. However, the strictier BS6 emission norms will kick in 2020 and the new model is likely to receive BS6 ready engine. The company will launch the facelifted version of the Renegade, which was unveiled for international markets in June 2018. It is based on Jeep Compass’ platform, so localisation won’t be an issue. It will be locally developed at the FCAs Ranjangaon facility. It will share interior components with the Compass, but Renegade will miss out on some high-end features. The SUV will be powered by a 1.4-litre Multi-Air petrol and a 1.6-litre MJD diesel engine. Both manual and automatic versions will be on offer. Jeep could also opt for the all-wheel-drive version of the SUV to get an upper hand over the rivals.
