New Maruti Ertiga Crossover – What To Expect?

2018 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Cross

Like the new-gen Ertiga, the upcoming Ertiga based Cross will be based on the Suzuki’s new HEARTECT platform.

Maruti Suzuki is aiming to further expand its market share in the growing utility vehicle segment. The company will soon launch the new-generation Ertiga MPV in India, which will be followed by petrol-powered S-Cross and the Vitara Brezza. What’s more interesting is that the company is also working on a crossover-ish rugged Ertiga, which is scheduled to be launched in 2019. This is expected to be Maruti’s most premium utility vehicle in the Indian market.

Like the new-gen Ertiga, the upcoming Ertiga based Cross will be based on the Suzuki’s new HEARTECT platform. The new model will be lighter, safer and more fuel efficient than the previous model. It is expected that the new Ertiga Cross will share design elements from the S-Cross. The vehicle is likely to get S-Cross like front grille, a more prominent front bumper and cladding on the sides. The company will increase the ground clearance to add more ruggedness to its looks.

It will be powered by a newly developed 1.5-litre petrol engine coupled to the Suzuki’s mild-hybrid technology. This engine is capable of producing  104bhp of power and 138Nm of torque. On the other side, the oil burner could be Suzuki’s newly developed 1.5-litre engine that is likely to power the new Ertiga, Vitara Brezza and the S-Cross. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox. A 4-speed automatic gearbox could also be offered with the petrol version.

Inside the cabin, the Ertiga Cross is expected to receive an all-black  cabin with contrasting seats. It will come with features like SmartPlay infotainment system with navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other features are likely to include multi-functional steering wheel, automatic climate control, auto-up power window in the driver side, dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, etc.
