Official bookings for the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650 motorcycles will begin in November 2018, confirmed Siddhartha Lal, MD and CEO, Eicher Motors. Deliveries of the bikes will be commenced soon after that. Royal Enfield’s 650 twins first broke cover at the 2017 EICMA in Milan, followed by their India debut at the 2017 Rider Mania in Goa.
Talking about the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, the neo-classic street bike features a circular headlamp, a circular fuel tank, raised handlebar and a flat seat. The Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 café racer comes equipped with a round headlamp, a teardrop fuel tank, clip-on handlebars and a single café racer seat.

Interestingly, the Royal Enfield 650 twins share the platform, engine, suspension system and other components. Powering both the bikes is a newly-developed 648 cc, twin-cylinder, 8-valve, oil-cooled, SOHC engine boosted with fuel injection technology. This motor, with RE’s first 6-speed gearbox, pushes out a maximum power of 47bhp at 7,100rpm and a peak torque of 52Nm at 5,250rpm. It also gets a slip assist clutch. While the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 weighs 199kg and offers a fuel tank capacity of 12.5-litres, the RE Interceptor 650 carries a kerb weight of 203kg and has a fuel tank capacity of 13.7-litres. The RE 650 twins will be the company’s first motorcycles in India to feature dual channel ABS (antilock braking system) as standard along with the disc brakes.

Damping duties on both the bikes are taken care of by 41 mm telescopic forks upfront and twin coil-over gas-charged shock absorbers suspension units. Stopping power comes from a 320mm front disc and a 240mm rear disc brakes. The twins have been assembled with 18-inch wire-spoke wheels shod with 100-section front and 130-section rear Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp tube-type tyres.
