Upcoming Mahindra Cars at Auto Expo 2018 S201 SUV

Codenamed S201, the sub-4 meter SUV will rival the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport and the Tata Nexon.

Homegrown automaker, Mahindra will launch 3 all-new products in the country this year. The company will first launch the U321 MPV in the second quarter of 2018, followed by a sub-4 meter SUV and a 7-seater premium SUV during festive season. Codenamed S201, the sub-4 meter SUV will rival the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport and the Tata Nexon. Previous media reports claim that the small SUV will follow XUV nomenclature and could be called the Mahindra XUV300.

Mahindra S201 is based on the SsangYong’s X100 platform that also underpins the Tivoli SUV. The company has modified this platform for a sub-4 meter car. The SUV has already been spotted multiple times during its test rounds; fresh spy shots have hit the web that reveals the model’s interior and other bits.

Going by the pictures, it is visible that the Mahindra S201 SUV’s dashboard is very similar to the Tivoli’s; however, there are subtle changes to keep things fresh. The vehicle comes with dual-tone (Black & Beige) dashboard, while a faux-aluminium panel is placed at the centre of the dashboard. The steering wheel is directly sourced from the Tivoli, featuring controls for audio and Bluetooth. The silver finished console has two large dials and a decently sized multi-info display. The SUV also gets a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that is likely to come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It will also serve as a display for the reverse camera. HVAC vents are vertically positioned on either side of the touchscreen, while the centre console comes with a piano-black finish. The SUV also gets dual-zone climate control, which could be a segment-leading feature. The top-spec model is expected to feature 7-airbags along with other high-end features like hill assist, ESP, traction control, etc.

The Mahindra S201 compact SUV will come equipped with two new engines – 1.5-litre diesel and 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo-petrol. Media reports claim that the S201 will be the most powerful sub-4 meter SUV in India. Both manual and automatic options are likely on offer.
