Mercedes-Benz that already sells the GLA in the entry-level premium SUV segment, is rumoured to be working on yet another small SUV to create a niche for itself. Likely to to be called the Mercedes GLB, the new SUV will be positioned between the GLA and the new GLC. The vehicle’s prototype was recently spotted testing in Europe.
There were earlier reports about Mercedes-Benz working on yet another small crossover based on the second-generation MFA platform, and the new spy shots further strengthen their claim. The luxury carmaker, however, has been tight-lipped about any such development.

The new SUV looks like a slightly bigger & beefier version of the current GLA, and is expected to be rolled out in 2019. Besides the platform, the Mercedes GLB will also share its engines and other components with the next-gen A-Class, CLA, GLA and B-Class.
Like most Mercedes-Benz cars on sale today, the Mercedes GLB too could be offered with multiple engine options. Though, the entry-level front wheel drive trim could feature a Renault-sourced, three-cylinder turbo petrol mill. The all-wheel drive 4MATIC version, on the other hand, will get Mercedes’4-cylinder units.
Since the Stuttgart-based carmaker sells almost its entire global lineup in India, expect the Mercedes GLB too to enter our shores in 2019.
