Tata Pelican (Kwid Rival) Continues Testing in India : Video

Tata Nano 2017 hatchback

With an all-new engine, more features and some design updates, the new Tata Nano 2017 aka Pelican could be priced a little higher than the existing model.

October 14, 2016 – It’s no secret that Tata Motors is working on a Nano-based small car that will go up against the Renault Kwid. Now, it seems like the carmaker has paced up the design and development process of the car as it has been snapped testing yet again on Bangalore-Pune highway. Since the spotted car looks more like the updated Tata Nano, we believe this would come as a replacement to the existing car and not as an all-new product which many reports had claimed earlier. The Tata Nano 2017 (Pelican) could be slotted between the GenX Nano and the Tiago hatchback.

When compared to the current model, the Tata Nano 2017 gets bigger tyres ( 13-inches instead of 12-inches) along with revised headlamps and front and rear bumpers. This also suggests that the new Tata Nano might be packed with a larger capacity engine, which in all likelihood could be the 1000cc, three-cylinder, petrol unit that the company is working on. Also Read: Upcoming Tata Cars in India

While the spotted car shares strong resemblance with the GenX Nano, it borrows some of its design bits from the Nano Europa concept. Having said that, the vehicle is in early concept stage and might receive several other changes when it final gets into production.

While the exterior of the car, as of now, isn’t that different, the Tata Nano 2017/Pelican will have new seats and all-new dashboard. Unlike the current model, the instrument panel will be shifted behind the steering wheel. The current model’s instrument cluster is positioned on the dashboard. While the tachometer is missing in the cluster, the speedometer is at the centre of it. The steering wheel too remains unchanged. The car will also borrow some entertainment and comfort features from the Tiago hatchback such as Harman ConnectNext infotainment system, AC vents, etc. Read More About: Nexon Compact SUV | Hexa Crossover
