After witnessing a strong demand for AMT Celerio, the company is planning to introduce an AMT variant of the Alto K10 in the Indian car market. Adding to it, Maruti is also aiming to equip more models with the technology.

According to Financial Express report, the company officials have confirmed that the Alto K10 and Wagon R will get the AMT gearbox. Moreover, the upcoming Ciaz sedan will also feature the AMT technology.

The AMT version of Celerio has received an overwhelming response from buyers across the nation and the hatchback gets a six month waiting period. The company only managed to manufacture around 5,000 units of Celerio as the AMT gearbox comes from Magneti Marelli in Italy. Maruti Suzuki is also in a mood to locally develop this AMT technology, which will help the company in future as well.

The AMT technology will give a competitive edge to Alto K10 against its competitors including Hyundai Eon, Chevrolet Spark and soon to be launched Datsun Go. Tata Motors is also launching several new products with AMT transmission, while add this technology to its existing model range. It will be interesting to see how these new models will do in the growing Indian car market.
