Maruti Suzuki is reportedly working on multiple new SUVs for the Indian market. The brand will introduce the next-gen Vitara Brezza before the end of this year, which will be followed by a 5-door Jimny and a new mid-sized SUV. It is rumoured that the company is also developing a Baleno based crossover and an all-new crossover to replace the S-Cross. However, MSIL is yet to make an official announcement on the same.
Next-gen Vitara Brezza
Maruti Suzuki is working on the second generation Vitara Brezza, which is reportedly to be launched in the end of 2021. However, MSIL hasn’t confirmed this news. The new model is reportedly to be developed on the advanced version of the HEARTECT platform, which also underpins the Ertiga. The new model will come equipped with modern connectivity features along with stronger mild hybrid system.
The new Brezza will come with the existing 1.5L K15B petrol engine; however, it will get a stronger mild hybrid system. It is expected to feature a larger battery and a more powerful electric motor to achieve higher fuel efficiency. The SUV will also receive a factory-fitted sunroof, a wireless charger, a larger touchscreen infotainment system, 6 airbags, etc. The SUV will be positioned against the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and the Tata Nexon. 5-Door Maruti Jimny
Maruti Suzuki is working on a long wheelbase version of the Jimny SUV for the Indian as well as international markets. The 5-door Jimny has already been caught testing in Europe. It is expected to be launched in the Indian market by July 2021. The new model is reportedly to have a 300mm longer wheelbase, and the length will be raised by 300mm.
The new model is reportedly to feature a turbocharged engine with a mild hybrid system. It could get a 1.4L turbo petrol engine that also powers the Swift Sport. The India-spec model could get a 1.5L NA petrol engine That also powers the 3-door model. Both manual and automatic gearbox options will be on offer. AWD system will come as standard.
Maruti-Toyota mid-sized SUV
Maruti Suzuki and Toyota joint venture is working on a new mid-sized SUV, which will be positioned against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the upcoming VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and the MG Astor. The new SUV is reportedly to be based on the Toyota’s new DNGA platform, which also underpins the Toyota Raize and the Daihatsu Rocky. The new model will be produced at Toyota’s production plant, which was earlier used to produce Yaris sedan.
