Toyota Kirloskar Motor is reported to have an order backlog of over 1,20,000 units, which is highest ever for the carmaker since its inception in India. In fact, the company recently halted bookings for the top-end hybrid variants (ZX and ZX (O)) of the Toyota Innova Hycross MPV. The ZX and ZX (O), which are high in demand, command a waiting period of 24-30 months. While the waiting period of the G trim stands at 3-4 months, the GX trim has a waiting period of up to 6 months. The VX and VX (O) trims are being promised to be delivered in 4 months and up to 10 months respectively.
In order to reduce waiting period of its top-selling models including Toyota Innova Hycross, Fortuner and Hyryder, the Japanese carmaker will expand its production capacity by 20-30 percent. The company aims to increase its manufacturing by double folds (around 3.2 lakh units) in this fiscal year compared to the FY2023 (which was around 1.66 lakh units).
Toyota will start a third shift at its Bidadi-based facility on the outskirts of Bengaluru from the first week of May 2023. The plant will produce 510 units per day and have a cumulative annual production of 4,00,000 units. In March 2023, TKM managed to sell 18,670 units against 17,130 units and recorded a YoY growth of 9 percent. The carmaker sold 8,075 units of the Innova (Crysta + Hyrcross), 3,108 units of the Fortuner and 3,474 units of the Hyryder.
Toyota’s Upcoming Model
In fresh updates, the Japanese carmaker will bring in the be-badged version of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx compact crossover. The model will look slightly different from its donor SUV. It’s likely to derive some of its design elements from the global-spec Toyota Yaris Cross. Similar to the Fronx, the new Toyota small SUV will use the 1.0L, 3-cylinder Boosterjet turbo petrol and 1.2L Dualjet petrol engines. Toyota will also introduce the re-badged versions of the Maruti Brezza subcompact SUV and Maruti Ertiga MPV.
