Toyota’s Upcoming Compact SUV Could Be Called Raize or Taisor

After introducing the Innova Hycross, Toyota is now planning two new models – a compact SUV and a 3-row MPV. The new models will be based on the existing Maruti products, as the 3-row MPV will be the re-badged Ertiga. Toyota has trademarked the Raize, Raize Space and the Taisor nameplates in India.

It is expected that Toyota’s upcoming compact SUV could be called the Raize or Taisor. For people not in the know, the Japanese automaker is selling a compact SUV with the Raize nameplate in select international markets including Japan and Indonesia. This SUV measures about 4 meters in length and is positioned against the Kia Sonet and Hyundai Venue. However, the India-spec model is likely to be based on either the Fronx crossover or the Brezza.

Toyota Coupe SUV

Toyota has already discontinued the Urban Cruiser compact SUV, which is basically the re-badged Vitara Brezza. We believe that Toyota will launch the re-badged version of the Fronx crossover in our market. This model will be positioned against the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Renault Kiger and the Nissan Magnite.

Few reports claim that Toyota could introduce the re-badged versions of both Brezza and the Fronx crossover in the country. Toyota can’t use the Urban Cruiser nameplate, as this name is already used with the Hyryder mid-sized SUV. The re-badged Brezza is likely to be called the Toyota Raize or Raize Space, while the re-badged Fronx could be called the Toyota Taisor.

The new Toyota SUV Coupe is likely to share the styling cues from the Yaris Cross. It will be offered with two engine options – a 1.0L 3-cylinder Boosterjet turbo petrol and a 1.2L Dualjet petrol. Both powertrains will be benefited with Suzuki’s mild hybrid technology. While the former is good for 100bhp and 147.6Nm of torque, the dualjet unit produces 90bhp and 113Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual as standard, a 6-speed torque convertor with 1.0L and an AMT with 1.2L engine.
