Volkswagen Virtus Launch In India On June 9, 2022

The much-awaited new Volkswagen Virtus mid-sized sedan will finally go on sale in the Indian market on June 9, 2022. Production of the new model has already been commenced at its manufacturing facility in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. Interested buyers can pre-book the new model online or at authorised VW dealership.

It is based on the VW Group’s MQB AO IN platform that underpins the new Taigun mid-sized sedan. Upon launch, it will rival the likes of the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the Skoda Slavia. It is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 10.5 lakh to Rs 18 lakh.

The new Volkswagen Virtus sedan will come as a replacement for the Vento sedan that has recently been discontinued from the market. In terms of prportions, the new Virtus is 4,561mm long, 1,752mm wide and 1,507mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,651mm. The new model will also offer a boot space of 521-litres.

The new Virtus will come with two engine options – a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder TSI and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder TSI. The GT Line variant will only come with the 1.5L turbo petrol engine. The 1.0L engine is capable of producing 115bhp and 178Nm. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. The 4-cylinder unit is good for 150bhp and 250Nm, and will be offered with 6MT and 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox.

The new Virtus features the signature VW styling with clean lines and elegant design. It features a single slat grille with chrome surround, LED projector headlamps with L-shaped LED DRLs, dual-tone alloy wheels, chromed door handles and wrap-around LED tail-lights. The new Volkswagen Virtus will come in 6 colour options – Wild Cherry Red, Candy White, Carbon Steel Grey, Curcuma Yellow, Reflex Silver and Rising Blue Metallic.

In terms of features, the new Virtus gets a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless connectivity, a digital instrument console, wireless phone charging, ventilated front seats, automatic AC, connected car features, an electric sunroof, cruise control, keyless entry, etc. For safety and security, the sedan will have six airbags, TPMS, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), multi-collision brakes, a rear parking camera, etc.
