Volkswagen Virtus Official Bookings Open; Production Begins

The long-awaited Volkswagen Virtus sedan is getting closer to its official launch in India. The sedan has recently been unveiled in the country. In fact, Volkswagen has started production of the new Virtus sedan at its manufacturing facility in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. It is expected to be launched in the country in May 2022.

The new Volkswagen Virtus will lock horns against Hyundai Verna, Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the newly launched Skoda Slavia. The new sedan will share the engine options, platform and components with the Slavia sedan. 

The VW Virtus mid-sized sedan is based on the MQB AO IN platform that underpins the Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and the Slavia. This platform is flexible enough to accommodate different body styles and engine options. The new model will come as a replacement for the ageing Vento sedan.

In terms of proportions, the new Volkswagen Virtus is 4,561mm long, 1,752mm wide and 1,507mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,651mm. In terms of styling, the new sedan gets a single slate grille with chrome surround, LED projector headlamps with integrated L-shaped LED DRL and an aggressive bumper that accommodates a wider air dam with fog lamps.

It gets dual-tone alloy wheels, a shark fin antenna, chromed door handles, and wrap-around LED tail-lights. The sedan will come in standard and GT Line trim. It will be offered in 6 colours – Wild Cherry Red, Candy White, Carbon Steel Grey, Curcuma Yellow, Reflex Silver and Rising Blue Metallic.

In terms of features, the VW sedan gets a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, a digital instrument console, wireless phone charging, ventilated front seats, automatic AC, connected car features, an electric sunroof, cruise control, keyless entry, etc. For safety and security, the sedan will have six airbags, TPMS, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), multi-collision brakes, a rear parking camera, etc.

The upcoming VW Virtus will be offered with two engine options – a 1.0L 3-cylinder TSI and a 1.5L 4-cylinder TSI. While the former is good for 115bhp and 178Nm, the later produces 148bhp and 250Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed torque convertor automatic and a 7-speed DSG automatic.
