May 2022 is going to be action-packed for the Indian automobile industry. There will be multiple new car launches across different segments. Here’re key details of the top 8 models, which are scheduled to arrive in market next month.
Jeep Meridian
Jeep India is ready to launch its premium 6/7-seater Meridian SUV in the month of May. In fact, select dealers have started accepting bookings for the model at an initial sum of Rs 50,000. Design and styling of the SUV looks similar to the Commander sold overseas. Compared to the Compass, the Jeep Meridian measures 364mm longer and has 158mm long wheelbase. The SUV is likely to be packed with advanced features such as a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless smartphone connectivity, wireless phone charger, ventilated front seats, 7 airbags, emergency braking system and ADAS
Honda City Hybrid
Honda Cars India will unveil the City Hybrid sedan on 14th April, followed by its launch in May 2022. The sedan has Honda’s i-MMD hybrid technology that includes two electric motors and an ICE (Internal Combustion Engine). It features a 1.5L, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated Atkinson Cycle petrol motor (98bhp/127Nm) under the hood. One of the electric motors works an integrated starter generator (ISG), and other one delivers 109bhp power to the front wheel via a single, fixed gear ratio. The Honda City Hybrid will offer three drive modes – running only on electric motors, running on petrol engine and running on combination of both.
Skoda Kushaq Monte Carlo
Skoda Kushaq Monte Carlo Edition is ready for market launch. Though, its launch date is yet to be announced. The model gets sporty black treatment on the exterior including black badging and bits instead of chrome, previous-gen Octavia RS 245-inspired alloy wheels and Monte Carlo badging on the front fenders. Under the hood, the Kushaq Monte Carlo will employ the same 115bhp, 1.0L and 150bhp, 1.5L petrol engines with a standard 6-speed manual gearbox. While a 6-speed torque convertor automatic transmission is reserved for the 1.0L TSI, a 7-speed DSG comes with 1.5L TSI only.

New-Gen Maruti Brezza
According to a fresh media report, the second-generation Maruti Brezza will hit roads in late May 2022. The subcompact SUV will come with heavily revised design, several new features and major sheet metal changes. The new 2022 Maruti Brezza is reported to be equipped with features such as an updated infotainment software, a 360 degree camera, sunroof, connected car tech, 6 airbags, paddle shifters with a new 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox. For power, the new Brezza will use the updated 1.5L K15C Dualjet petrol engine with mild hybrid technology (only for the manual variants). With the mid-life update, the compact SUV might get a CNG kit.
Maruti Baleno/Toyota Glanza CNG
The Indo-Japanese automaker is also reported to announce prices of the Maruti Baleno CNG next month. The model will feature the updated 1.2L Dualjet petrol motor with the CNG kit that’s likely to be slightly less powerful than the existing petrol unit. It’s likely to deliver a fuel economy of 25kmpl. In order to attract more buyers, the automaker might offer the factory-fitted CNG kit on multiple variants. Toyota’s re-badged version of the Baleno – Glanza – will also receive CNG variant in May.
Hyundai Venue Facelift
Hyundai’s highly popular subcompact SUV – Venue – is ready to receive its first mid-life update next month. The model will get the new-gen Tucson’s inspired parametric grille, while its updated taillamps with LED graphics will be inspired by the Ioniq 5. It will come with the new split headlamps, updated front and rear bumpers and a new set of alloy wheels. Inside, the 2022 Hyundai Venue facelift is likely to feature new upholstery and theme. The automaker will equip a few new goodies to the updated model lineup. The new Venue will continue to come with the same engine-gearbox combinations, which are offered on the current model.
Kia EV6 GT
The South Korean automaker is ready to foray into the Indian electric vehicle (EV) space with the Kia EV6 GT. The model is reported to unveil in the month of May, followed by its market launch. The electric crossover is offered with multiple configurations in global markets including RWD with 170bhp single motor and AWD with 235bhp, dual motor setup. The range-topping version comes with a bigger 77.4kWh battery pack that can be had with either a 229bhp single motor RWD or 325bhp, dual motor AWD configuration. The EV6 GT variant is available with dual-motor AWD layout that’s good enough for 585bhp and 740Nm. Powertrain details of the India-spec Kia EV6 are still under the wraps.
