It will be the fourth model to be based on the heavily localised MQB AO IN platform. This platform already used by the VW Group’s India 2.0 models including the VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and the new Skoda Slavia. The global-spec model is based on the MQB AO platform that underpins the global-spec Polo, T-Cross and the Nivus coupe SUV.

Engine Options

The new Volkswagen Virtus will share the engine and gearbox combinations with the Taigun mid-sized SUV. The new model will be offered with two engine options – a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol & a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder TSI petrol. While the former is good for 108bhp and 175Nm of torque, the later produces 147bhp and 250Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed torque convertor automatic with 1.0L petrol and a 7-speed DSG automatic with 1.5L petrol.

Launch Timeline

The new sedan is scheduled to make global debut on March 8, 2022. The new Volkswagen Virtus sedan will be launched in the country in May 2022; however, VW is yet to make an official launch date.
