New Volkswagen Virtus 1st Teaser Released Ahead Of March 8 Debut

Volkswagen has officially announced to reveal the new global sedan on March 8, 2022. The company has also teased the new mid-sized sedan on its website, which confirms that the new model will be called the Volkswagen Virtus.

The new Volkswagen Virtus mid-sized sedan will be based on the Volkswagen Group’s locally developed MQB AO IN platform. This platform underpins the new Skoda Slavia, Skoda Kushaq and the VW Taigun. The new mid-sized sedan is expected to be launched in the Indian market by May 2022.

The new model will come as a replacement to the Vento sedan, which has recently been discontinued from the market. Similar to the Taigun, the new Volkswagen Virtus sedan is expected to come in two trim levels – Standard and GT Line. The GT Line variant will come with sportier design elements and a more powerful turbo petrol engine.

The new Virtus mid-sized sedan will be offered with two petrol engines – a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbo and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo. While the former is good for 115bhp of power and 175Nm of torque, the later is good for 148bhp of power and 250Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual gearbox, a 6-speed torque convertor automatic with 1.0L petrol & a 7-speed DSG automatic with 1.5L engine.

Not just platform & engine specs, the new Virtus global sedan will share the features with the Taigun mid-sized SUV. In terms of features, the sedan will come with an electric sunroof, a large touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, connected car tech, a digital instrument console, automatic AC, LED lighting system, cruise control, paddle shifters and others. The sedan will offer multiple airbags, ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic BrakeForce Distribution), ESP (Electronic Stability Program), hill-launch assist and other safety features.
