2023 Toyota Innova Spotted For The First Time; More Details Emerge

Toyota Innova has been the brand’s most successful model in India as well as in select Asian markets for close to 2 decades. The MPV was first launched in 2004 and later gone on to receive multiple changes. The company is now working on new Innova, which is reportedly to arrive sometime in 2023. The 2023 Toyota Innova has been spotted testing for the first time.

Not just Innova, Toyota will also launch the new-gen Fortuner SUV. For people not in the know, the Innova and the Fortuner are based on the same body-on-frame chassis. The spotted model was fully covered in a thick cloth, and the only visible elements are the LED tail-lights, roof mounted spoiler with stop lamps and newly styled alloy wheels.

The 2023 Toyota Innova is expected to come with significant changes to design, interior as well as on mechanical front. Instead of the current IMV body-on-frame architecture, the next-gen Innova could be based on the TNGA (Toyota New Generation Architecture) platform. This platform is versatile enough to accommodate different body styles and powertrains.

The current Innova Crysta is offered in an RWD (Rear-Wheel Drive) setup, while the Hilux and the Fortuner also gets a 4WD layout. Due to TNGA platform, the new 2023 Toyota Innova is most likely to be offered in front-wheel-drive layout.

The 2023 Toyota Innova is reportedly to be offered in petrol and petrol-hybrid powertrain options. The company could discontinue the diesel engine, as Suzuki and Toyota have decided to promote petrol, hybrid, CNG and electric as fuel options in the market. The company could sell the current model alongside the new Innova; however, the former is most likely to be reserved for the fleet owners.

The Toyota Innova Crysta is available with two engine options – a 2.4-litre turbo-diesel and a 2.7-litre naturally-aspirated petrol. while the former is good for 148bhp and 360Nm of torque, the diesel engine pushes out 164bhpp and 245Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
