Volkswagen India has revealed two new variants and GT Edge Limited Collection of the Taigun midsize SUV at a media event. The SUV’s new variants are based on the GT Plus trim and come with the 1.5L turbo petrol engine that’s good enough for 150bhp and 250Nm. It can be had with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. With addition of the new variants, the Volkswagen Taigun DSG will be available on the lower trim and the top-end GT Plus variant will get more affordable with the manual gearbox.
Besides this, the carmaker showcased the Taigun GT Limited Collection that includes two concepts – Trail and Sport. The Trail edition features special ‘Trail’ inspired body side graphics, a roof rack, 16-inch blacked-out alloy wheels, leatherette upholstery and puddle lamps. The Taigun Sport Edition has special ‘Sport’ body graphics, blacked-out ORVMs with red inserts, 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and leatherette upholstery.
The Volkswagen Taigun SUV has also been showcased in three new colours – Lava Blue, Carbon Steel Matt and Deep Black Pearl. The Carbon Steel Matt edition gets gloss-black finish on the door handles, ORVMs and rear spoiler. The Deep Black Pearl edition has GT Line-like elements such as seats with red stitching, red brake callipers and red ambient lighting.
The SUV’s all showcased new variants, special editions and new colour models will go on sale in June 2023. The company has also introduced a seatbelt reminder as standard safety feature on models manufactured from 1st April onwards.
In October 2022, the VW Taigun was subjected to Global NCAP crash test and achieved top safety rating. The SUV’s standard safety kit includes electronic stability control (ESC), anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), anti-slip regulation (ASR), brake disc wiping, brake assist, electronic differential lock system, dual front airbags and rear parking sensors.
