Taigun & Kushaq Are Safest Cars of India; 5 Star Global NCAP Rating

Global NCAP has released the crash test rating for the Volkswagen Taigun and the Skoda Kushaq. Both SUVs were tested under the Global NCAP’s more demanding crash test requirements for India. The new VW Taigun and the Skoda Kushaq have received top star ratings for adult and child occupant safety.

The VW Taigun and Skoda Kushaq are based on the same MQB AO IN platform and are produced in the same plant. The new SUVs have scored 5 stars for adult and five stars for child occupant protection becoming the first models ever to achieve five stars for both adults & children. Global NCAP’s updated crash test protocols assess frontal and side impact protection for all tested models, ESC, & pedestrian protection for side impact pole protection assessments.

VW Taigun Skoda Kushaq Crash Test

Global NCAP has tested the base models of the SUVs, which are equipped with ESC (Electronic Stability Program) as standard. The new SUVs demonstrated a stable structure in the frontal impact, adequate to good protection for adult occupants, and marginal to good protection in the side impact scenarios. Child occupants’ full protection during the front and side impact.

The VW Taigun and Skoda Kushaq scored 29.64 points out of total of 34 in the adult protection test. The SUVs does extremely well in child protection tests by scoring 42 points out of total of 49 points.

Taigun & Kushaq – Adult Protection

In the front impact, the protection offered to the driver & co-driver’s head and neck was found good. It offers adequate and good protection to driver’s and passenger’s chest respectively. Driver’s passenger’s knees showed good protection. It offers marginal or adequate and good protection to driver’s and passenger’s tibias respectively. The footwell area was rated as stable. The bodyshell was found stable and it is capable of withstanding further loadings.

In the side impact test, the new Taigun & Kushaq offers good protection to head, abdomen and pelvis, and marginal protection to chest. In the side pole impact, the curtain airbags meet the fitment requirements. The side head protection airbags offer good protection to the head and pelvis, and adequate protection to the abdomen and marginal protection to the chest. ESC meets the fitment requirements and the performance shown in the test was acceptable according to Global NCAP’s latest requirements.

VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq Child Protection Test

In the frontal impact, the child seat for the 3 year old was installed rearward facing using the i-Size anchorages and a support leg. In the crash test, it was able to prevent head exposure during the frontal impact offering full protection. Similarly, the child seat for the 18 months old was installed rearward facing using the i-Size anchorages and a support leg. It was able to prevent head exposure during the frontal impact offering full protection. In the side impact, both CRS’s offered full side impact protection. The car comes with 3 point belts in all seating positions as standard in all versions.
