Volkswagen Taigun Based Nivus Coupe SUV Launched in Brazil

The highly anticipated Volkswagen Nivus coupe SUV has finally been launched in the Brazilian market at a starting price of R $ 85,890 (Approx INR 12 Lakh). It is available in 2 variants – Comfortline 200 TSI and Highline 200 TSI. The Highline 200 TSI costs R $ 98,290 (Approx INR 13.8 lakh). In the Brazilian market, the Nivus is positioned between the Polo and the T-Cross.

Volkswagen has also introduced the Launching Edition of the VW Nivus Coupe SUV, which comes with blackened roof and ORVMs, 17-inch darkened alloys and custom details. This package is available on the 2 paint schemes – Sunset Red and Moonstone Gray.

The Comfortline variant also gets an optional VW Play and Tech package, which comprises of autonomous emergency braking system, frontal monitoring and a multi-functional leather steering wheel with paddle shifters. This model has standard Multimedia Composition Touch with 6.5-inch screen.

The VW Nivus Coupe SUV is based on the MQB AO modular platform. It measures 4,266mm in length, 1,757mm in width, 1,493mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,566mm. It shares the wheelbase with the new Polo; however, the larger overhang will make the Nivus longer than the T-Cross. The Coupe SUV offers a boot space of 415-litres.

It is powered by a 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine that is capable of producing 128bhp and a peak torque of 200Nm. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via a six-speed torque convertor automatic. The new model is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph in 10 seconds before hitting a top speed of 189kmph. The Coupe SUV has disc brakes for all four wheels.

The VW Nivus Coupe SUV gets LED headlamps, LED DRLs and LED flashlights as standard. The top-end model gets 17-inch wheels shod with 205/55 R17 tires. The SUV gets 10.25-inch digital instrument console and the new 10-inch VW Play Multimedia. This infotainment system has 10 GB of internal HD and dedicated applications from VW partners. It is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, reverse camera, as well as internet and Wi-Fi connection via smartphone.

Volkswagen Nivus comes with six airbags, traction and stability controls, Beats premium sound system with subwoofer, adaptive cruise control, automatic AC, electric folding mirrors, autonomous braking, fatigue detector and LED fog lamps with curved functions. It is available in 6 colour options – Crystal White, Ninja Black, Moonstone Gray, Sirius Silver, Platinum Gray and Sunset Red.

Volkswagen will launch the MQB AO based Taigun mid-sized SUV in the Indian market in 2021. This platform is the same that underpins the Nivus, Polo and the T-Cross in the global markets. The company will also introduce the new-gen Vento/Virtus in India in late 2021.
