Upcoming Toyota Cars – 3 SUVs, 2 MPV

Japanese automaker Toyota is getting aggressive with its product strategy for the Indian market. The company had launched the new Glanza, Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV and the Innova Hycross MPV in the country in the past 1 year. Now, the company plans to add multiple new utility vehicles in its line-up in the next couple of years. Here’s a list of top 5 upcoming Toyota cars in the Indian market by 2025.

2023 Innova Crysta

2023 Toyota Innova Crysta Diesel

Toyota is all set to launch the upgraded Innova Crysta diesel in the Indian market. In fact, the new Crysta can be booked online or at Toyota dealerships by paying a sum of Rs 50,000. The company has confirmed that the new model will be powered by a 148bhp, 2.4L turbo diesel engine with a 5-speed manual gearbox. This engine has been updated to meet the upcoming BS6 Phase 2 or RDE emission norms. It will come with two drive modes – Eco & Power. The new model will be offered in 4 trim levels – and in 7 and 8-seats configurations.

Toyota has already discontinued the Urban Cruiser sub-4 meter SUV; however, it will soon introduce a new SUV Coupe. Internally called the Toyota A15, the new SUV Coupe will be the re-badged Maruti Suzuki Fronx. The new model is likely to look significantly different from the Fronx. In fact, the new SUV Coupe is reportedly to share styling cues from the Yaris Cross. The new model will rival the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite, Kia Sonet and others. It will be powered by a 1.0L Boosterjet 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine with a mild hybrid tech. The lower variants will receive a 89bhp, 1.2L Dualjet petrol engine with mild hybrid tech.

Toyota is also planning to launch a re-badged version of the Maruti Ertiga MPV in the country in 2023. Codenamed D23, the new MPV is already on sale in South Africa as the Toyota Rumion. However, the India-spec model is likely to receive more changes compared to the African model. Powering the new Toyota 7-seater MPV (Rumion) will be the Ertiga’s 1.5L, 4-cylinder K15C Dualjet engine. This engine produces 103bhp and 136Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters.

New Toyota 7-Seater SUV

A new media report claims that Toyota is planning to launch a new 7-seater SUV in our market. The new model is reportedly to be based on the Corolla Cross SUV on sale in select international markets. It is based on the TNGA-C platform, which also underpins the newly launched Innova Hycross. The new 7-seater SUV will rival the likes of the Mahindra XUV700 and the Jeep Meridian. The new SUV is likely to share the engine options with the Hycross. It is expected to be offered with two engine options –  a 172bhp, 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated petrol and a 186bhp, 2.0-litre petrol with Toyota’s self charging strong hybrid tech.

Suzuki and Toyota partnership is working on new electric vehicles for the Indian market. The JV is developing an all-new electric SUV, which will be based on the new skateboard platform (internally known as 27PL). This platform is derived from Toyota’s 40PL electric architecture. The new electric SUV is scheduled to be launched in our market by 2025. The new electric SUV will sit on a 2.7 meters long wheelbase and is expected to come with a bigger battery pack. The new model is expected to feature a 60kWh battery pack, which is likely to offer a range of over 500kms. The new model could also get an AWD system.
