New Toyota 7-Seater MPV (D23) Coming in 2023

Toyota Kirloskar Motor recently introduced the all-new Innova Hycross MPV in the country. This year, the Japanese aims to further expand its Indian product portfolio with two new models including a Toyota 7-seater MPV based on the Maruti Ertiga and a Toyota Coupe SUV based on the upcoming Maruti Baleno Cross. According to a fresh media report, Toyota’s re-badged version of the Ertiga MPV (codenamed D23) might be unveiled in mid 2023.

Just so you know, the company is already selling the Ertiga-based Toyota Rumion MPV in South Africa. In fact, Toyota had filed a trademark application for the Rumion nameplate in India in October 2021. Visually, the Toyota Rumion appears exactly similar to the Maruti Ertiga. Though, it’s the redesigned grille and Toyota’s signature badge that distinguish it from its donor model. The side and rear profile, alloy wheels, body panels and other design elements of both MPVs are identical.

Interior of the new Toyota 7-seater MPV will also be similar to the Ertiga. Features such as leather wrapped steering wheel, cruise control, 6 airbags and automatic headlamps will be reserved for the higher trim. The model will also offer a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Appel CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, ‘Suzuki Connect’ connected features, 6-speaker audio system, height adjustable driver’s seat, front centre sliding armrest, push start/stop button, automatic AC unit, rear defogger, speed sensing auto door lock, electronic stability program, hill hold assist, rear parking sensors, Isofix anchorages and more.

Powering the new Toyota 7-seater MPV (Rumion) will be the Ertiga’s 1.5L, 4-cylinder K15C Dualjet engine. The motor pushes out a peak power of 103bhp and 136Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters. Similar to the Ertiga, the Toyota Rumion is likely to promise a mileage of 20.51kmpl (MT) and 20.30kmpl (AT). The MPV will also be offered with CNG fuel option, delivering fuel efficiency of 26.11km/kg.
