Upcoming Toyota 7-Seater MPV – What We Know So Far

Toyota Kirloskar Motor, the Indian subsidiary of the Japanese automaker, is planning to expand its product portfolio in the next couple of years. The company will bring in the updated Glanza hatchback, Urban Cruiser facelift and an all-new mid-size SUV (codenamed D22) this year. Toyota’s re-badged versions of the Maruti Ciaz (Belta) and Ertiga (Rumion) will be initially available for the export markets, followed by its India launch.

The company also aims to enter into the C-segment MPV segment with an all-new model (codenamed 560B) sometime in 2023. It will be a 7-seater family car based on Toyota’s DNGA (Daihatsu New Generation Architecture) platform that also underpins the global-spec Toyota Raize and new Avanza. The same architecture will also be used for Toyota’s upcoming mid-size SUV that will rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and MG Astor.

As of now, details of the new Toyota 7-seater MPV are scanty. Though, the model is likely to come with the brand’s hybrid technology. The existing Toyota’s self charging hybrid electric vehicle comes with a gasoline engine and an electric motor. It helps reducing fuel consumption and carbon emissions. At present, Toyota Camry and Vellfire are available with the hybrid powertrain.

In terms of price and positioning, the new Toyota 7-seater MPV will sit between the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Toyota Innova Crysta. Here, it will lock horns against the Kia Carens that’s due for this month. More details on the new Toyota 5608 MPV are likely to be revealed in near future.

Talking about Toyota’s upcoming mid-size SUV, the model is reported to hit showrooms during this festive season. It will be produced at the company’s Bidadi based plant in Karnataka. Similar to the new Toyota MPV, the Toyota D22 will come with the brand’s hybrid technology. The Japanese automaker is planning to produce 200,000 units of the new SUV on annual basis in the next few years.
