2022 will surely be an exciting year for the SUV enthusiasts as several new launches have been planned across different price range. Car manufacturers such as Mahindra and Force Motors have planned 5-door versions of their popular Thar and Gurkha SUVs respectively. India’s largest PV markers, Maruti Suzuki will also bring in the 5-door Jimny this year. Here’re launch and key details of these upcoming 5-door SUVs.
5-Door Maruti Jimmy – 2022
The Indo-Japanese automaker has confirmed the 5-door Maruti Jimny that’s reported to come with the 1.5L K15B petrol engine and 12V SHVS mild hybrid tech. The gasoline motor delivers a claimed power of 102bhp and 138Nm of torque. The same powertrain does duty in the existing Vitara Brezza. Both manual and automatic gearboxes will be on offer. The 5-door Jimny will be 300mm longer than its 3-door version that was previewed at the 2020 Auto Expo. In fact, the former has 300mm longer wheelbase as well.
5-Door Force Gurkha – 2022
The 5-door Force Gurkha is currently in its testing phase and it’s reported to see a release sometime in 2022. Most of the design elements and features will be carried forward from the exiting Gurkha. Reports suggest that its 5-door version will have three-row seat arrangement (forward facing seats) to accommodate 6 adult occupants. It will sit on a longer wheelbase and have more cabin space to offer. Under the hood, it’s likely to feature the same 2.6L turbo diesel engine that powers the 3-door Gurkha. It makes power worth 90bhp and 250Nm of torque.
5-Door Mahindra Thar – 2023
Mahindra & Mahindra is reported to launch the 5-door Thar SUV sometime in 2023. It will be the LWB (long wheelbase) version of the Thar with significant cosmetic changes. Compared to the 3-door model, the LWB Thar will have beefier front bumper, bigger steel wheels and elongated rear section. For power, the5-door Mahindra Thar will use the 2.0L turbo petrol and 2.2L mHawk turbo diesel engines that do duty in its 3-door version. Both motors could be calibrated to produce extra power and torque. It can be had either with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox. The SUV could be offered with the standard 4X4 drivetrain system.
