Upcoming Tata Punch Micro SUV – 5 Key Details We Know So Far

Tata Motors recently confirmed that the production version of the HBX concept based micro SUV will be called ‘Tata Punch’. The carmaker also released the first official image of the production-spec model that shares strong resemblance with the concept. The new Tata micro SUV is expected to hit showrooms just ahead of festive season (possibly in September or October, 2021). Here’re 5 important details we know so far about the upcoming new Tata mini SUV.

1. Close to Concept

The new Punch SUV carries the brand’s Impact 2.0 design language as we have seen on the Harrier and Safari. The final model has retained several design elements from the concept. It features Tata’s humanity line grille and split headlamps. The LED DRLs are placed above the headlamp cluster and connected by a gloss black grille. The front bumper has the signature Y design pattern with integrated fog lamp assembly. What add more to its SUV-ish looks are the pronounced squared wheel arches with 16-inch alloy wheels, heavy cladding and upright stance. The official image confirms that the Tata Punch will come in dual-tone colour scheme.

2. Share Features With Altroz

While the interior of the new Tata SUV is yet to be revealed by the carmaker, it’s expected to be similar to the HBX concept. It will have a free-standing 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system and squarish air con vents. Most of the features will be borrowed from the Altroz premium hatchback such as a 3-spoke, flat-bottom steering wheel, part digital instrument cluster with analogue speedometer and a digital tachometer, HVAC controls, automatic climate control, push button start/stop and more. The infotainment unit will support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The mini SUV will also offer connected car features via Tata’s iRA technology. On the Safety front, it’s likely to get dual airbags, rear parking sensors and ABS with EBD as standard fitments.

3. Petrol Engines Only

The Tata Punch SUV is expected to be offered with two petrol engines – 1.2L naturally aspirated and 1.2L turbocharged. While the former makes power worth 85bhp and 113Nm of torque, the latter is good enough for 108bhp and 140Nm. The turbo-petrol motor could be reserved for the higher trims. The new Tata micro SUV might be offered with 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox options. Read – 2021 Tata Tigor EV With Ziptron Tech Launching Soon

4. Positioning

In the company’s product lineup, the new Tata Punch will sit below the Nexon. It will be the smallest and fourth addition to Tata’s SUV family. Its official dimension figures, however, are still under the wraps.

5. Most Affordable Tata SUV

The upcoming new Tata Punch micro SUV will also be the most affordable Tata SUV in the country. It’s estimated to be cost under Rs 5 lakh. Here, it will directly take on the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and the upcoming Hyundai Casper.
