Tata Punch Is The Official Name Of HBX Micro SUV: First Photo Revealed

Tata Motors has officially announced that the production version of the HBX concept will be called the Tata Punch. In fact, first official picture of the SUV has been released by the automaker. First unveiled as the H2X concept at the Geneva Motor Show, the new Punch micro SUV will be launched during festive season – around September-October 2021.

For people not in the know, Tata Motors had showcased the HBX micro SUV in the pre-production avatar. It will be the brand’s first SUV based on the ALFA-ARC (Agile Light Flexible Advanced Architecture), developed under Impact 2.0 design language. The Altroz premium hatchback is the first model based on the ALFA platform. The company said that the Tata Puch is designed for the next generation users.

Unveiling this much-awaited SUV, Mr. Shailesh Chandra – President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors said – “Tata PUNCH, as the name suggest is an energetic vehicle with a capability to go anywhere. Light on its feet and strong in its caliber, this is a vehicle which truly punches above its weight. With the perfect combination of stunning design, technology and driving dynamics, the PUNCH will come equipped with superlative features and an architecture that has proven its versatility in all forms. True to the SUV genes of all Tata Motors’ products and catering to needs of customers who are looking for a compact city car with pure SUV characteristics, PUNCH will be the fourth addition to our SUV family, widening the range of options for all to choose from.

The official image confirms that the Tata Punch styling remains true to its concept. The front design is heavily inspired by the Tata Harrier. It features the signature Tata grille, which we have already seen on the Nexon facelift and the Harrier. The SUV gets split headlamps with LED DRLs on top and main headlamp positioned lower on the bumper. The sleek LED DRLs are integrated into the upper grille.

There is chrome underlining for the upper front grille and DRLs, while the lower grille has inverted tri-arrow design on the mesh. The new Tata Punch features a big and sporty bumper that accommodates wider air-intakes and round-shaped fog lamps. Black plastic cladding can be seen all-around the body. It gets blacked-out pillars and contrasting roof, which confirms that the SUV will get dual-tone colour options. The rear door handles are integrated into the C-pillar. It features machined cut alloy wheels and ORVMs with integrated blinkers.

It is expected that the new Tata Punch will measure similar to the concept, which was 3,840mm long, 1,822mm wide and 1,635mm tall. It is expected to feature a wheelbase of 2,450mm. The SUV likely to share the interior with the Altroz and the Tiago. In terms of features, the micro SUV will get a floating touchscreen infotainment system, a multi-functional steering wheel, fabric seats, Harman audio system, semi-digital instrument console, ambient lighting, ABS with EBD, cornering stability, parking sensors, etc.

The new Punch micro SUV is expected to be offered with two petrol engine options – a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol and a 1.2L turbocharged petrol. Transmission choices are likely to include a 5-speed manual and an AMT unit. The micro SUV could also receive drive modes. It will rival the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and the upcoming Hyundai Casper.
