Mahindra & Mahindra has planned a range of new SUVs for the Indian market. Recently, the carmaker confirmed XUV700 SUV for the third quarter of 2021 and trademarked XUV900 nameplate in the country. Both models will sit above the XUV500 in the company’s product lineup. The company has confirmed that it will discontinue the XUV500 temporarily after the launch of the Mahindra XUV700.
The XUV700 is likely to be the new-generation 7-seater version of the XUV500. Once launched, it will be positioned against the upcoming Hyundai Alcazar. Mahindra’s Pune based plant in Maharashtra will serve as production hub for the new SUV.
Visually, the Mahindra XUV700 will look premium and bigger than its predecessor. In fact, it will be packed with several advanced goodies including the ADAS (advance driver assistance system). The SUV will also be equipped with autonomous braking system, a radar system, a 3D panoramic vision for driver and an eyelid tracking mechanism. Features such as wireless smartphone charging, a multi functional flat bottom steering wheel, a large centre armrest upfront, a factory-fitted sunroof, a large touchscreen infotainment system, electronic parking brake with auto hold will also be on offer.
If reports are to be believed, the Mahindra XUV700 will be the most powerful petrol SUV in its segment. It will come with a new 2.0L turbocharged mStallion petrol engine producing power around 190bhp. The diesel model will derive power from a 2.2L mHawk motor that will deliver power worth 185bhp. The SUV will come with two gearbox options – 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque convertor automatic. The latter will be sourced from Aisin.
The upcoming Mahindra XUV900 is likely to be a premium SUV that might come as a replacement to the Alturas G4. If it happens, the new model will take on the Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner and MG Gloster. As of now, details of the XUV900 SUV are scanty.
